Sometimes I have to remind myself that just because it is Winter does not mean my wardrobe should adopt the same lifeless, dull color scheme as Mother Nature. During these darker months I tend to reach for the more neutral shades in my closet - blacks, tans, grays, and navys - all tones that are definitely chic in their own right but which over time can seem lackluster and uninspired. Enter - bold winter brights!
This weekend I went shopping with some girlfriends in Knightsbridge and was thrilled to see the massive post-holiday sales still going strong at many retailers. Not one to miss a deal, I scoured the racks at Zara, H&M, Ted Baker, Karen Millen, and Harvey Nichols, to name a few. It was at H&M that I spotted this top - a whimsical, vivid blue and green striped shirt with flared sleeves and a belted waist. The bright and contrasting color combo immediately caught my eye, and I love that the silhouette is both playful and work appropriate.
The key to not overdoing bright colors is to pair them with something more subtle - these black textured leggings keep the look styled. It is also critical to get your accessories right by keeping them in the same color family so as to complement your ensemble without overpowering it.
