Summer Trend: Under the Sea

It's time to face the facts: 2012 is having a Mint Moment. What started as a few designers' foray into pretty pastels on the S/S 12 runway (see Versace and Chanel), the seafoam and coral color families have evolved into a full on explosion of underwater hues.

Blue and orange sit in opposite camps on the color wheel, which is why this combo in all its variations is so dynamic and appealing.  I love the idea of pairing a sheer teal top like the one above from Mango with iridescent sequin shorts that seemingly reflect light to imitate the sun's rays as they strike the waves of the sea. You can top off the look with a sleek pair of coral pumps like the ones above from Nine West for a bold pop of color, or opt for a more monochromatic feel with Versus patent leather mesh slingbacks.  Adding a touch of nude or white to any coral-seafoam combination will instantly enhance the look, so try on delicate gold and pearl jewelry to complete your ensemble.  Now go ahead and embrace your inner mermaid, because this summer you're sure to make a splash!
