Well that went by fast. In the two weeks since our honeymoon Mike and I managed to sell a lot of stuff (thank you Amazon and Craigslist), pack up even more stuff (goodbye wedding gifts! See you in two years beloved Keurig!), throw away more garbage than we would like to admit (why did I insist on keeping so many takeout chopsticks??), said a final (tearful) farewell to friends and family, and boarded a plane on two one-way tickets to London. It is only now that I've started to exhale. Five days after arriving in the UK Michael and I are beginning to feel more settled, though we won't be in our permanent housing until September. In the meantime I've managed to open a bank account, get a UK phone plan (cheaper than you'd think!), and ventured wearily into the unchartered waters of the London rental market (more expensive than you'd dream). But it hasn't been all life maintenance activities! My first day of orientation kicked off today after a weekend of socializing with my new classmates and their spouses/partners, and already I can tell we are in for an amazing two years. Together we tasted our first pints at the Windsor, an LBS-centric pub where I am sure to have many more memories, explored an "American" burger joint on Hollywood Road in Chelsea (apparently there's something of a burger revolution in London these days), strolled through the darling and super-packed Portobello Market in Notting Hill, and got lost jogging around Hyde Park (hint: London is a lot bigger than Boston. A LOT). I know it won't all be fun and games as I am foremost a student, but for now my mentality is very much "when in Rome." Because really, when else? PS - I haven't posted an OOTD from London because so far it's been business attire (though perhaps I'll do one of those too), but here are a few shots of an ensemble I wore to dinner with friends in Boston a few weeks back. High-waisted shorts and crop-tops are all the rage this summer and I couldn't resist the look of these vintage geometric shorts from Sheinside. Paired with an H&M white blazer and YSL pumps, the look is easy, chic, and above all comfortable. I hope you enjoy!
