Lights, Camera, FASHION!

On Friday night Boston Common magazine hosted the Fashion Week event of the year, and I had the distinct honor of being the sole fashion blogger in attendance! An exclusive event presented by Boston Common and Saks 5th Avenue, Lights, Camera, FASHION was a runway show featuring pieces from the fall collections of the world's most renowned designers: Alexander McQueen, Fendi, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs, and Ralph Lauren, to name a few. The event took place at the Revere Hotel in their elegant and modern Space 57.  Rather than a traditional runway, the catwalk was set up in an "X" shape so that the audience could see the models and their beautifully appointed ensembles from every angle.  Guests sipped champagne and enjoyed fashion-themed cocktails while tasting a selection of absolutely divine hors d'oevres (the fried artichoke balls and sweet potato cakes were to die for).  As the lights flickered in anticipation of the show's start, attendees took to their seats while the press (myself included!) assumed position in the pit.  Cue lights, steady camera, ready for fashion.

The show was fabulous and by the end of it I had a running list in my head of all the gorgeous pieces I wanted to make my own.  I absolutely adored the camel coat by Philosophy by Ferretti and I went crazy over a multi-print baroque inspired coat by Etro, but my favorite look (which sadly I couldn't get a clear shot of) was a monochromatic ensemble by Ralph Lauren: a gorgeous hunter green knit dress with a fur collar dyed in the exact shade of the dress, completed by a pair of olive suede pumps. In the words of Rachel Zoe, I die.

Once the show was over guests continued to mingle, dancing on the runway and posing for photos with a collection of silver mannequins set up in a corner booth.  I was lucky enough to chat with Boston Common's marketing manager Amy Fischer and her assistant Gina, both of whom spent the evening ensuring the event went off without a hitch and looking fabulous all the while.  I also met the girl behind the twitter account @ababeinboston, who was as sweet as she is stylish.

All in all the evening was a huge success and a fantastic kick-off to Boston Fashion Week!
