With the giving season in full swing and Christmas a mere 17 days away (ahh!), I thought it high time to get my blog in the spirit and spread some holiday cheer! I always get sentimental around this time of year, reflecting not only on days gone by but also just taking the time to give thanks to all of the blessings in my life. This year I am especially thankful to all of you - starting this blog has been such a rewarding experience and it wouldn't be nearly as fun to write if I didn't have my wonderful readers to keep me motivated. So, in honor of Christmas and being thankful and just wanting to give back, I am hosting Joie's first annual Holiday Giveaway competition!
Here's how it's going to work:
THREE winners will receive two of their favorite items from my Top 10 Holiday Products list (below). But that's not all! I am also going to write three holiday checks - one to each charity of the winners' choice. To enter all you have to do is:
- "Like" this blog post using the Facebook Like button
- Subscribe to my blog (enter your email address in the upper right corner and click "Subscribe")
- Leave a comment for me at the end of this post telling me which two products from the list you most love, the name of your favorite charity, and a sentence or two about why that charity is your favorite
- To enter more than once, follow me on twitter and send me a tweet with YOUR favorite holiday product! I love hearing what you guys are using because it gives me ideas for new products to try.
The competition will be open from now until December 22nd, and winners will be announced on December 24th. Happy Holidays and Good Luck!!
My Top 10 Holiday Products
1). Kiehl's lip balm
This product is seriously my favorite lip balm ever. It is so hydrating and perfect for this time of year when lips and cheeks tend to be the most sensitive to dry weather. Dab a touch of this on your lips, cheeks, hands, or wherever you most need it and defend against the elements all winter! This product also comes in some delicious flavors - I love the mango for summer and am obsessed with cranberry during cooler months.
I have yet to meet a brow pencil I love more than this one. Tom Ford has an incredible line of beauty products, but for me this pencil takes the cake. It's flat angled tip is perfect for filling in little gaps, and the mascara brush on the opposite end of the wand is super handy for combing everything into place. The effect is effortless and naturally chic every time - an absolutely must have in my make-up kit!
I love technology - especially when it saves me time dealing with my hair. Though my hair is incredibly thick and I don't usually wash it more than once every two days, by day two it always tends to look a little sad. No longer is that the case with this dry shampoo - I just sprinkle it into the roots of my hair and blend, and my hair instantly has more volume, less build up, and generally looks amazing. Not to mention is smells lemony fresh.
I can't have a holiday favorites product list that doesn't include self-tanner. My boyfriend insists I am pale all year round, but during the winter I'm practically translucent. This St. Tropez self-tanner has become my skin-savior, I use it once a week and it gives my body a lovely natural tan. The mousse consistency and pump applicator make it so easy to use and I never worry about it looking blotchy or uneven.
Butter London makes some of my favorite nail polishes - and this winter is no exception. For the holidays they've come out with these adorable stocking-stuffer duos that include a nail color and a "lippy", or lip gloss, in a matching shade. My favorite colors from this collection are the gorgeous golden shimmery color "West End Wonderland" and the opal iridescent shade "Frilly Knickers." Beautiful for both day and night, your lips and nails will look as festive as the ornaments on your tree! (unless you have really tacky Christmas tree ornaments, in which case this analogy is irrelevant).
An age-old favorite of skin-obsessed women like me everywhere, Clarins Beauty Flash Balm is simply the best. Its lightweight texture goes on after cleansing to instantly smooth and brighten skin, leaving my face feeling moisturized and refreshed. It works beautifully as a primer under foundation and can also be applied more generously and left on the skin like a mask. Amazing all year round but especially useful during the drier months.
My absolute favorite highlight product ever. It comes in a gorgeous bottle with a pump applicator, and you need so little of it that just one of these will last you an entire year (and that's if you use it every day). It's ultra-fine light reflecting particles give the most subtle but beautiful glow wherever you use it. I apply a small amount in a V shape from the tops of my cheekbones to my brow bone. It comes in a range of colors to suit every skin tone, but my favorite is Moonstone - a pearly pale gold color that isn't too pink.
What accessory is more perfect for the holiday season than a beautiful red lip? These lip-plumping glosses by Givenchy are sophisticated and simply stunning. The color range is fabulous but for winter I adore #12 - Rouge Passion, a bright cherry red with a hint of sparkle (not of the 14 year-old variety). The consistency is light but the color is very long-lasting, not to mention it smells amazing!
I was in the market for a deeper and more sensuous fragrance this winter, and I found it in Lady Million by Paco Rabanne. I bought the rollerball version of it because it is easy to throw in my bag and a great way to try perfume without making a serious commitment. The scent is smooth and vibrant, with orange blossom and raspberry notes giving way to jasmine, gardenia, and amber. It is rich but not overpowering, and as its name suggests, it feels simply luxurious to wear.
This isn't a beauty product but it is a new addition to my coat collection this year, and I adore it. The pattern and color combination is reminiscent of the tribal trend we saw earlier this year, and the fur-lined hood gives the jacket a more vintage feel. It is not a heavy coat so I typically wear a big sweater under it, and the drawstring at the waist is perfect for when I want a more cinched, tailored look.
